Submarine Centenary

Along with the centenary of the Great War, 2014 marks the centenary of Submarines in Australia. To commemorate their 100 year history, a number of activities, conferences and commemorative services have been organised in Fremantle this November. A fitting location as Western Australia is the home of Australia's Submarine Force (SUBFOR) and remains a place of significance for the submarines and submariners who served and operated from Fremantle.

These commemorative events are a joint effort between the Submarine Association Australia (SAA), the Submarine Institute of Australia (SIA), the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) and the Submarine Force (SUBFOR). For further information visit http://www.submarineinstitute.com/sia-projects/Submarine-Centenary.html

The City of Fremantle will be participating in, supporting, and hosting a number of events over the commemorative period. The people of Fremantle (including the greater Fremantle area) are proud to be part of the ANZAC Centenary commemorations and to have the opportunity to honour and pay respect to those who have and are serving our nation as part of the Armed Forces. ANZAC Centenary events will embrace the themes: 'Commemorate, Contemplate and Educate'.
